Data Sources and Age
The source of data on wells is from the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) researched in April, 2011, for the period ending January 1, 2011. There are 295 RRC Pending File wells of the 15,675 Barnett Shale producers are posted on the map but change as the RRC gives some wells RRC Lease Code and puts the wells in the general online reporting file. Lease codes with five digits represent oil leases. The production data on these leases have been allocated, in that the total of all the wells on each oil lease has been divided by the number of wells on that lease and applied equally to each well. No total for the whole oil lease is shown except when there is but one well. Where there are two Lease Codes for a well or wells, the last Lease Code was used and the production represents the sum of both lease codes in order to prevent the API number appearing twice. Gas wells have six digit lease codes and each well has its own identity. The RRC well spots are from the RRC shape files of April, 2011 or more recent. The pipeline locations and information are from the RRC shape files of April, 2011. The surface property parcel outlines are from the county tax appraisal district for the year shown: Collin -05; Comanche 07; Denton -07; Ellis 07; Fannin -07; Grayson -07; Hill -08; Hood-05; Johnson-07; Kaufman-07; Somervell-07; Tarrant-08; Wichita-07; and only 21% of Parker County -07.

This online interactive GIS was developed by OGInfo.com, LLC. in conjunction with data compiled by the Powell Shale Digest using RRC production files including the RRC Pending Files not shown online by operator or field searches.. The well locations for Barnett Shale wells were generated from the SHAPE files of the Geographic Information System (GIS) of the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC). Base map information was obtained from U.S. Geological Survey 7.5 minute quadrangle maps. Patent Survey lines from Texas General Land Office maps were interpreted onto the U.S. Geological Survey base. The oil and gas well data was provided by research from the Powell Shale Digest© (PSD) for the period noted and includes RRC Pending file wells, to the extent of PSD research, and is intended solely for general information. Research of well and property ownership data should be made individually at the source data for exact information. Pipeline data was obtained from public records at the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC). The data sets provided by the OGI PowerMap are continually being updated and refined and are intended solely for general information.
